Use of personal information

 

What is it?

The Hospital Episodes Statistics Database (HES) is information about hospital care. It includes information about the care you have received, including your personal information, information about your condition and details about treatments and investigations you have received. It is recorded by the hospital where you are treated as part of your medical records, and is sent to the Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC). The HSCIC send some of this information to The National Clinical Analysis and Specialised Applications Team (NATCANSAT).

Included in the data shared with NATCANSAT is your NHS Number, your Date of Birth, and Postcode. You are not asked for your permission to give this information to NATCANSAT, as they have exemption under section 251 of the NHS Act 2006.
